Now, let’s talk about Dakota Johnson first. Again, pretty thankless role, but we needed somebody who would be sort of unforgettable in the introduction of Sean Parker. In a weird way, she tells us more about Sean Parker than a lot of people in the movie. It’s how we tee him up. The fact that she wanted him and that she was seduced or seduced him, without knowing who he is. I thought that was such a smart idea and a wonderful way to dramatize how charming Sean can be. It’s not his fame that gets him this particular girl, it was something else. It’s only in hindsight that she goes, ‘Good heavens, that’s who you are?’ - David Fincher, TSN commentary
